How are the rankings calculated?

Each team gets a composite rating built from three things: winning percentage, run differential (capped at 8 runs a game, so one blowout doesn't swing a season), and strength of schedule — how tough the opponents actually were, based on those opponents' own records. A 15-5 team that played strong competition ranks ahead of an 18-2 team that didn't.

Teams with only a handful of games are trusted less until they've built a track record, so an early hot or cold streak doesn't fully set a team's spot before the season fills in. Teams playing up an age group get credit for it, both in their own rating and in how their record counts toward opponents' strength of schedule.

Head-to-head settles close calls. From Fall 2026 on, when two teams next to each other in the rankings are within a point and one of them won their games against the other, the winner ranks higher. Outside close calls, rankings weigh a team's whole season, so a single win over a team doesn't by itself put you ahead of it.

Rankings combine every tracked tournament in the region, so they reflect a team's whole season, not one weekend.

Rankings also factor in a team's competitive tier — Majors, AAA, or AA — where one is on record: its NCS division (D1, D2, D3), or its USSSA or Perfect Game class (Major maps to Majors, AAA stays AAA, and AA and A both map to AA). Majors and AAA teams get a boost, and beating a Majors or AAA opponent counts as a tougher schedule. AA counts the same as a team with no tier on record.

An outlined ~AA badge means no tier is on record, but the team's results and the teams it has played look like an AA team's. It's an estimate for your information: it doesn't change the team's rating or rank.

How often does data update?

As tournament results are published. Game results come from official scorekeeping records, and the rankings board shows the date of its latest update.

Our record or ranking looks wrong

The most common cause is a scrimmage counted as a real game. On your team's page, hover any game in Game History and click the flag (⚑) to report it — we review every flag and remove confirmed scrimmages from the stats.

Anything else — wrong score, duplicate game, missing result — use the Help & Feedback button and choose "Something looks wrong." Include the team name and date and we'll dig in.

My team isn't on DugoutData

Rec and league teams aren't ranked — only travel and select programs appear on the boards. Ratings are built from tournament and travel results, and a rec season doesn't produce the cross-team schedule those comparisons need.

If yours is a travel or select team and it's missing, submit it here — we'll find your schedule and add your games, usually within a few days.

Why do player names show only a last initial?

These are kids, so we deliberately show first name and last initial only — enough for a coach or parent to recognize a player, without publishing a child's full identity. See our privacy policy.

How do I cancel or manage my subscription?

Go to your account page and click "Manage or cancel subscription" — that opens Stripe's secure billing portal, where you can cancel or update your payment method anytime, no phone calls or hoops.

If you run into trouble there, use the Help & Feedback button and choose Account & billing — we'll take care of it same-day.

What's your refund policy?

If you're in your first week of a paid month and it's not for you, contact us and we'll refund it, no questions asked. After that, cancellation stops future charges and you keep access through the end of the paid period.
